Q:  What can you tease about this season of "Suits" and about your character Donna?

A:  I think this season is really interesting because the entire power dynamic at the firm is challenged by the arrival of Daniel Hardman on the scene, so all the stakes get a little bit higher and things get more complicated and messier. For Donna, last season she was set up as being somebody who’s always right about everything. This season she has a moment where she’s terribly wrong about something and her relationship with the firm and her personal relationship with Harvey is all really challenged and it all gets kind of messy too. Darker this year. 

Q:  You already talked a little bit about how the relationship between Donna and Harvey is going to be affected. What about her romantic feelings for Harvey? Are they still lingering?

A:  Are they lingering? You know, I don’t think so. I think Harvey and Donna, a long time ago, might have had some energy in the romantic department, but I think they made a conscious choice not to go there. I think that they probably both think that they have moved on. But their relationship as kind of partners in a way, I mean she’s his assistant, but they have a real symbiotic work relationship, that gets really messy and messed up and stuff.

Q:  It seems kind of like this season is focusing on relationships, ones that are expected and some not so much.  We're loving Donna and Rachel's new dynamic with having Donna as Rachel's wing-woman.

A:  Yes, totally. I love that. I love that they’ve written this friendship between the two women, and they’re just continuing to do that. I imagine that they’re, as they should be, they’re going to be there for each other when things get difficult as the season progresses.

Q:  Will Donna's career be in jeopardy with the unearthing of this supposedly buried file?

A:  Donna is loyal. She’s loyal probably to a fault, like, it can almost be a blindspot for her, her loyalty toward Harvey. I think everybody’s job is kind of always in jeopardy this season, I think that’s what’s really interesting about it. Jessica is in real danger, and with Jessica being in real danger, then Harvey is in real danger. It just kind of makes dominos from there down to Mike and Donna. I think everybody is off their game this season, and everybody’s at risk.

Q:  How about the wonderful relationship that Donna has with Louis, this kind of great give-and-take kind of a friendship, I refer to it as a friendship of convenience.

A:  Yeah, I kind of like that. Donna is a real people person and she kind of gets every character in the firm and I think she understands. She has a big heart and she’s a compassionate person, so I think she enjoys playing with Louis, but she also kind of gets who he is, like, understands his persona in a way.  She understands that he’s operating from sort of this kind of broken, emotional place, and that’s why he can be such a douche, to use the term or the expression that Aaron (Korsh) uses a lot about people, about characters on the show. His word, Aaron’s word, not mine. So  yeah, I appreciate that she has some compassion for Louis. Again, that’s going to be really challenged. Her relationship with Louis is going to be really challenged and I don’t know if it’s going to be resolved, actually. I haven’t received a script where there’s any resolution going forward. In fact, the last script that I read makes it seem that Louis is in for a bumpy ride.

Q:  We've gotten to see Louis be even more conniving recently with recording Harvey and Mike and possibly siding with Hardman.

A:  Yeah, he’s the one who’s really not sure which side he’s going to go. He’s a livewire, there. Just as a side note, it’s such a joy to see Rick Hoffman playing this role right now. He’s so compelling. I’ve been on set a couple of times just watching him. Meghan and I were sitting next to each other watching the monitor last week and  that storyline is really great.

Q:  Speaking of writing, Donna certainly gets some really amazing zingers. Is there any improv in there? Are you allowed any ad-libbing or is that strictly the amazing writing?

A:  Yeah, we are, we are allowed ad-libbing. It’s great. First what we do is we do it word-perfect and  they get their coverage of it as it’s written. But then after that’s done, if there’s time, they invite us to throw in a couple of things here and there, and it’s always fun when the writer’s on set and it’s like oh yeah, say that! Say that! You got it! Or, how about this? There’s kind of that playfulness which is really fun. Then when we get to see the shot, when it’s all edited together, we’re like oh my God, they kept that funny little thing in! Oh great! That stayed in! Rick and I do a lot of that when we work together. We kind of just throw in a few extra lines here and there.  We’re so lucky that they’ve created these characters that are just so richly drawn, so deep, and we just keep getting deeper and deeper and deeper. It’s so fun to play. It’s also so cool to be on a show that has a procedural aspect that isn’t procedural, really, that’s totally about relationships, I think.

Q:  We know you’re a part of the social networking site Twitter, and I’m wondering, what kind of feedback have you been receiving from fans?

A:  Yeah, it’s so fun! It’s so fun to see people’s reactions, especially after each new episode airs. I was talking to Patrick about it, too. It’s great to get the feedback because we’re up here in Toronto and we’re just at work and going to work every day, and we don’t know, necessarily, we’re not really out on the town or meeting a lot of people. You don’t really know how it’s being received so Twitter is a great way to know that people are watching and enjoying it, and then that is a powerful motivator. You just want to keep doing good work because you’re so happy that people are liking it, you know? You just want to keep it good.  It’s funny because I do a lot of theater, so you can tell when people like it or they don’t like it. You know when you’ve had better nights and that energy, that energy that happens in the room when it’s live, is really fulfilling. So this is kind of a strange sort of new way to get interaction and get the feeling of how it is being received. It’s kind of funny in this new social media world of ours. It’s cool.

Q:  Is there anything else about the show that you would like to tease or share with fans?

A:  I think in terms of the season, just in general, I just think that it is getting darker and more intense. The comedy stuff is still there, there’s still lightness there, but it’s going deeper and darker and getting more complicated and more messy. I’ve only read through episode ten, but I can say that when I read the last six pages of episode ten, I kind of went oh my gosh, this is getting, wow, this is going to go down a really interesting path for the back six, from eleven through sixteen.  I’m personally excited about that as somebody who watches the show so I can say to the fans that I think that’s going to be really cool. And it’s totally cliché, but we’re so, so grateful that people are enjoying the show and giving this great feedback and tuning in, it really means the world. It really, really does. It’s so fulfilling to see that people are enjoying themselves.
